Editing Options

Please Note:

I will not accept projects that have not been through a developmental edit or self-editing process. Please see the Resources page for an excellent course and books on self-editing.

The exception to this rule is found in "The Rest of the Story" section below. Many of those projects would not go through a developmental edit.

Fortunately, I have many friends who are editors. I would be glad to give you their names/websites so you can reach out to them.

Thank you!

Line Editing

What is a line edit?
A line edit is just like it sounds. An editor reads your project line by line and edits for clarity, flow, and wording while still maintaining your voice.

How does it work?

It starts with a sample. You'll give me the best 1,000 words you've written and the 1,000 words where you've struggled the most in this project. I'll go through and do a line edit for you on these pages.

Once we discover that we're a fit, we'll sign a contract then you'll send me your project. I start with a cursory read just to make sure that I know the plot and characters in your voice. Then I go back to the beginning and read it again, but this time I'll go through it line by line while making changes and comments. When I've completed the edit, I'll send it back for you to review and make changes. Within two weeks of the return of your project, you can ask me questions via email or have one 30-minute Zoom call about any of the edits.

What will it cost you?
Currently, I'm doing sample edits for $30 USD. That price will be going up in the near future. This is a non-refundable fee, but if you choose to use 43 Frogs Editing, it will be taken off the final price of the project.

The sample will help determine how much time I will need to complete your edit and what the cost of the edit will be.

Copyediting

What is a copyedit?
A copy edit is the grammar, punctuation, spelling, and facts.  An editor will use the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition, and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary to ensure your project is as professional and polished as possible.  They will verify your facts if you're writing nonfiction or historical fiction.  They get into the nitty-gritty parts of the work and sweep out anything that doesn't belong while adding in the bits that do.

Once we discover that we're a fit, we'll sign a contract then you'll send me your project. I will go through it line by line and word by word while making changes and comments.  When I've completed the edit, I'll make at least one more pass before I send it back to you to review. This edit will come with a style sheet.  Within two weeks of the return of your project, you can ask me questions via email or have one 30-minute Zoom call about any of the edits.

The Rest of the Story

This is that "catch-all" section.

What else can I do for you?

Healthcare topics:
How many times have you been to a doctor's office and seen a sad looking form that's been copied thousands of times with typos and explanations that need to be updated? Let's make your explanation of services read professionally and without the typos.

Do you have a pamphlet you need someone to review the copy on for content, patient readability, and commas?  I'd be glad to do that for you.

Do you need to explain what CMS 117 is about to your
pediatricians and why it's important related to your Medicaid program?
Let's talk.  I can help you out with copy that will keep your
pediatricians seeing patients, instead of reading lengthy explanations of the quality measures.

Please note: I'm not a medical editor.  I don't have a degree in medicine.  I do not edit research or academic papers.

Non-healthcare related topics:
Proofreading - I will take on proofreading on a case-by-case basis.

Miscellaneous - So much can fall under this, right? What fun thing do you have brewing in your beautiful mind? What could we do together?  Ask me anything.  You never know what I may have up my sleeve.
